Student Assessment

Evaluation and Student Achievement

The evaluation of student achievement is an ongoing process conducted throughout the school year. Every effort will be made to insure fairness and justice to all students. In determining student grades teachers will take into consideration the student’s classroom work, attitude and examination results. At the beginning of each school year teachers will decide the formula to be used in determining grades and will inform their students. Students should make certain they understand how their grades are calculated. Any grievance of marks by a student or parent should first be made to the subject teacher. If the objection cannot be resolved at this level the principal should be contacted for a resolution.

Major examinations are scheduled in Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science during the courses and with Comprehensive Exams in June. The exam schedule for finals will be published several weeks ahead of time. These exams are very important in evaluating students’ progress. The only excusable reason for not writing a final exam will be illness verified by a parent/doctor with a note or phone call to the school administration.
