Attendance
Attendance
School administration, office staff and teachers keep accurate records of student’s attendance.
Success in school requires regular and punctual daily attendance. Parental co-operation in ensuring that students attend school is essential.
Under Section 8 of the Alberta School Act -- illness, bereavement, family emergencies or medical attention are the only justifiable reasons to excuse student absence.
Accidents or Illness
Students should report all accidents to the office immediately. Students who become ill during the school day should report to the office at once. If contact with the parents/guardian regarding the sickness cannot be made, students will be kept at the school. The Westwind Divisional Board policy prohibits schools from administering medication to students unless special circumstances have been previously and mutually agreed upon. Students are not to leave the CJHS without getting permission from the office.
Absences
When students return from an absence they must present to the office a dated, signed statement from their parent or guardian explaining the absence. Whenever possible, we strongly encourage parents to phone the day their child is away. The phone call will take place of the required note. Un- excused students will be considered truant. Students are required to make up any schoolwork missed during their absence. It would be a good plan to visit with your teachers to arrange a time to hand any missed work. There will be a year-end incentive for students that are absent two or less days during the year, excused or otherwise. Three late's will count as one-half day absent.
